We want to write your favourite songs.
We are a songwriting company based in sunny South Africa. Our business involves writing songs for professional artists to perform, and composing and producing songs for use in television/radio/promotions.

Artist music:
When we compose for artists we take great care in writing songs that are relevant to where pop music is at that specific time. A lot of time is spent researching what kind of song is needed in the market to be successful. Popular music on TV and Radio is always changing and to keep up as an artist, your songs need to be able to stand out and not just blend in with the rest. We work hard not only to write good songs, but songs that you can call your favourites, and that will end up on your "Best of" album.

All the songs on our site are available for license and showcase the kind of material that we can produce. We have been writing various kinds of material for close to seven years, and are now in our own studio.

Promotional music:
We believe that music is highly influential in a brand's message, so we like to go into depth with our clients on all aspects of composition, style, genre, tempo, rhythm, instruments and emotions that are needed to complete your project. We know that music sets the tone, and we want to work with you to create the perfect message for your brands, whether in a TV commercial, Radio ad, or any other type of brand promotion.

Our featured song: Daylight's Coming

Daylight's Coming.mp3

Lyrics:

Verse 1:
The best part about Saturday, is Saturday night
And I don’t leave home unless my dress is too tight
I wanna be like poison, and make you weak
I wanna be like Kanye, and stop your speech
I’m the kind of girl that won’t need Applebottom jeans
Cos when I dance everyone in the club will notice me

Pre-chorus 1: Whoa oh it’s 2am, they play my song again
Whoa oh oh, Whoa oh oh

Chorus 1:
Get back on the dance floor now
Cos daylight’s coming, the world is turning
Get back on the dance floor now
Cos daylight’s coming, daylight’s coming

Verse 2:
Well I’m feeling pretty good in my little black dress
I got no reason to be stressed, it’s my round, my round
My Jimmy Choo’s are holding up no matter what I do
Cos I only know how to dance in high heel shoes

Pre-chorus 2:
Whoa oh it’s 4am, they play that song again
Whoa oh oh, Whoa oh oh

Chorus 2:
Get back on the dance floor now
Cos daylight’s coming, the world is turning
Get back on the dance floor now
Cos daylight’s coming, daylight’s coming

Bridge:
I see the sun on the horizon
It fills the room and it comes too soon
I’ll leave reality to someone else
This party blooms, as the light comes through

Chorus 3:
Get back on the dance floor now
Cos daylight’s coming, the world is turning
Get back on the dance floor now
Cos daylight’s coming, daylight’s coming

Tempo: 128 bpm

Genre: Club Hit (pop/hip hop) in the vein of Ke$ha, LadyGaga and Katy Perry

David Garrioch

Arguably one of the most driven people in the South African music industry, when David decides to take a project on, it suddenly becomes a steam train. He took up guitar at the age of fifteen, and has been composing music for over six years now. David was initially self taught for two years and then studied formally under Syd Kitchen for three years. In 2006 he enjoyed a term in London where he was a guitar/musical theory tutor and joined the band Feral Sun as their bass player. David recorded an EP with the band at Stakeout Studios before moving back to South Africa to study. He took up Piano and a BCOM in economics. In 2008 he co-founded Erotic Monster with James Howse, an old school rock band that parodies the classic Rock 'n Roll image. His role in the band is as lead guitarist and song composer.

2009 saw the birth of James Howse Songwriting CC. David joined the business as a songwriter and producer. He has a talent for composing catchy musical leads, and unique chord progressions, along with a very critical ear that knows the inner workings of a hit song. His constant desire to push a song as far as it can go is what makes him an asset to JHS. Aside from the business he is currently involved in band management and event organisation.

Pop influences: James Morrison, Justin Timberlake, Alanis Morrissette, Coldplay, David Gray, Dr. Dre, Eminem, James Blunt, Jason Mraz, Michael Jackson, Nelly Furtado, Norah Jones, Prime Circle, Red hot chilli peppers, Robbie Williams, Snow Patrol, Tracy Chapman

James Howse

“I want to compose your favourite songs” says James. He took up guitar in 2003 and initially wanted to head in the direction of rock and alternative music. He soon however discovered a passion for composing songs and learning what made one song more special than another. In 2005 James studied a year in Jazz Guitar at DUT under Demi Fernandes and also learned Piano. He then studied under Syd Kitchen for two years while doing a BA in creative brand communications at Vega. His degree is heavily rooted in creative thinking and thus enabled him to study various creative processes and practical applications of these, all of which have greatly influenced his ability as a composer.

In 2009 he created James Howse Songwriting CC, to follow his true passion of composing music. The business is inspired by what he loves to do most, and has its mission statement centered around composing world-class music before music that will just sell records. He gets his kicks from breaking hit songs down into their raw parts and finding what has made them so popular. James believes there is always something to learn about songwriting, and that because of this his job will never get stale.

Pop influences: Elton John, James Morrison, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, Nelly Furtado, Norah Jones, Red hot chilli peppers, Usher, Robbie Williams, Timbaland, The Script, Seal, Queen, The Perishers, The Beatles, Michael Bublé
